Happy New Year and homework

Posted by joannacumming | Posted in General News | Posted on 12-01-2018

Class 4 have settled back into class and they have been working hard. Our topic this term is Rainforests and they have enjoyed researching an animal found in the Amazon Rainforest ready to write their non-chronological report. In science we’ll be looking at habitats and classification of animals which links to our topic. Maths over the next few weeks is focussing on division skills and fractions.

Homework this week is due in Wednesday 17th January 2018

They have all been given a worksheet relating to the tables they are learning. this will need to be completed by Wednesday and they need to learn that table ready for a test on Friday. I have attached a youtube link which is a fun way to get them to learn the tables. Please can you encourage your child to learn their tables as it helps them enormously in their maths lessons.

What a busy term!

Posted by joannacumming | Posted in General News | Posted on 28-11-2017

Class 4 have been super busy this half term, as well as being expert scientists and making their 2 minute presentations, they have also written some fantastic Haikus and Kennings in our English lessons. Currently they are developing their skills in formal letter writing. They have taken the role of Hrothgar the Viking, who needs a new shield asap for his battle in Jorvik. Hrothgar is writing to a shield maker in his homeland of Norway. So far, the class have planned the content of their letter detailing their shield requirements and have written their openings. Watch this space for pictures of their letters.

The class have really impressed me with their maths skills. The last few weeks, we have covered addition, subtraction methods and applied our skills to reasoning problems. This week our focus is using the grid method to multiply TU by U. As soon as this skill is grasped, they will be applying it to problem solving. Please encourage your son/daughter to learn their tables as it helps massively in their everyday maths work. Our final topic before we break up for Christmas will be division strategies.

In our art work the class have been sketching the eyes, using a variety of sketching techniques they have learned through Piper. Experimentation of oil pastels in the next stage.

Book talk has a massive focus in our school and it is great to hear them discuss the texts we are reading. If you could listen to your son/daughter read at home afew times a week

Homework is now given out every Friday and needs to be returned by the following Wednesday. It would be great if every member of the class could complete it on time.

Our P.E. sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday. Most of the class have their P.E kit in school but warmer clothing is definitely needed as we always go outside every Thursday ( unless it’s tipping down!). Our focus this half term has been hockey skills and balancing in gymnastics. The previous term, they created a fantastic Viking dance based on preparing for battle, marching to their ship before invading Britain. They were absolutely brilliant.

Class 4 become scientists

Posted by joannacumming | Posted in General News | Posted on 21-11-2017

Class 4 have been working so hard since returning to school after half term. In our science lessons they’ve been learning about the differences between solid, liquids and gases. They used their knowledge to make a 2 minute film to explain solids and liquids, using the resources as evidence. A lot of fun was had making the film. ( Photos to be added soon)

Everyone has been working really hard on their songs with John from Notivate so I thought I’d post a link to the website from the organisation. They work with so many people to help them to express themselves and improve their lives.

Keep up your practising, Year 4!

P.S. Please return any Notivate trip letters as soon as possible 🙂

Chocolate Sale

Posted by sdesade | Posted in General News | Posted on 09-02-2017

Thanks to everyone who came and bought chocolate, and to everyone who helped make and sell the chocolate in our sale on Wednesday – Year 4 raised £150 altogether! Fantastic! We will put the money towards the cost of our trip to Holdenby House for our WW2 topic.
Thank you!

Posted by sdesade | Posted in General News | Posted on 09-02-2017

We are planning two more trips this year; one to the Mosque to find out more about Islam and one to Holdenby House to learn more about our next topic (WW2).

24th February – Mosque. We will walk to a local mosque and learn more about prayer in Islam. The visit is free and we will be back before lunch time, so don’t need to make alternative arrangements. Please ensure you are appropriately dressed for the English weather and for a place of worship, in school uniform.

25th April – Holdenby House. For our WW2 trip, please could we all dress up in WW2 clothing as we will be evacuees for the day? We will leave school at 9am and we all need a packed lunch, preferably in a carrier bag to be thrown away. We should be back before 3.15. The cost of this trip is £10.

Viking Day

Posted by sdesade | Posted in General News | Posted on 21-10-2016

Thank you so much for putting so much effort into dressing up for our Viking Day. Everyone looked great and had a great tint in time!

Our visitor, Hrothgar, set up his tent in the Studio and then blew his Viking horn to call us to follow him. He showed us Viking weapons, how to make a fire (and put it out safely!), showed us Viking games, helped us to act out plays and we performed a Viking funeral.
Well done to everyone who played a part in our fun, educational day!
I’ll try to put up some photos soon. 😉
