Year 4 worked brilliantly at the Inter-Schools Sports Festival. It was a miserable day and we got soaked but everyone worked hard and wanted to stay to enjoy the morning! I was really impressed with the teamwork and determination shown by everyone. Whether we won or lost the games, everyone was so respectful towards other players and adults; it was fantastic to see! Well done, Year 4!

We had an amazing day at The Stables theatre in Milton Keynes, working with music industry professionals. We got to see a real-life recording studio and worked with John from Notivate to rehearse the songs we had written with him at school in our groups. Then we went with into the recording studio and laid down our guide track together. After that, we sang individually to make it easier to mix the song together. It was quite scary but everyone overcame any nerves and did it really well! Luckily John and Andy were very reassuring and Mark mixed the sounds to make us sound as great as possible. We went into the mixing room to hear a roughly edited track together. When the songs are mixed, they will be given to us on CD. We can’t wait to play our songs to you!

We had our first session with Notivate today. Everyone loved the music quiz and we answered well! We will work in our groups for the next few weeks to create songs together then we will have the opportunity to go to a real recording studio to record the tracks! How exciting!

We have learned lots about rainforests this term. We wrote balanced arguments about deforestation and the reasons behind it. The rainforests are endangered because of people’s actions.
In Maths, we have become experts at the numberline method for subtraction. We are learning the grid method for multiplication. We have now got lots of resources to help in Maths and we have learned how to use them.

Well done to everyone who worked so hard this term: you have been amazing! I love your work on the Vikings; your fantastic descriptions and poems; your use of resources and visualisation to become more fluent with numbers and calculation. I hope you all have a brilliant break and enjoy the time with your families. I can’t wait to see you all on Tuesday 5th January in our warm rainforest!

We have been exploring different types of poetry, including Haiku, Kennings, Limericks and poems that use metaphors.
Yesterday we walked around the school and described what we could see, hear and smell using metaphors. Today we worked in teams to turn the descriptions into poems.DSC00177

Tomorrow we will perform the poems to the class!

What was your favourite phrase? I loved the descriptions of Mrs Lane’s office and the school dinners!

We watched ‘Chocolate Cake’ by Michael Rosen on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BxQLITdOOc

While we watched it, we held chocolate in our hands to see if it would melt. To make solids melt we need to add heat energy. Then they become liquid. Some people’s chocolates didn’t melt, some melted lots and were really runny. We think the ones that didn’t melt were not held very tightly or their hand was really cold.

We got to lick our liquid chocolate off our hands. We really loved this lesson!
